BROWSER DETECTION

This feature gives you backwards-compatibility when it comes to your viewer's web browsers. If a viewer coming to your website has an older web browser, you have the option of either creating a page that tells him to download a modern browser, or you can create a page that is compatible with their browser. Please see our demo of this feature to get a better idea. Run your mouse over the "Java" link without clicking on it, and check the status bar at the bottom of your browser.

It's easy to do this - it's just a simple link:

<a href="/cgi-bin/checkbrowser.exe?http://www.infodial.net/htms/checkbrowser.htm,
http://www.infodial.net/java/java.htm"> JAVA </a>

Let's take a closer look at this command:

  • First, there can't be any spaces in the command. We have divided the call so that you can see it without having to scroll left in YOUR browser in order to see the command in its entirety.
  • Think of it as "/cgi-bin/checkbrowser.exe?URL1,URL2
where URL1=the backwards-compatible link, and URL2=the rest of the world's link.

Note - If you are looking to refine your browser check to determine if your visitor is using MSIE or not use the MSIE browser detect JavaScript in our JavaScript section.
